This talk will introduce the nuclear fusion option for base-load electricity production using magnetic confinement of high-temperature hydrogenic plasma. Starting from the basics of plasma confinement and heating, and reprising a little of the scientific history, we will turn to recent potentially game-changing technology developments in high-field, high-temperature superconducting magnets, which promise a new path for faster and less costly development of this virtually inexhaustible, carbon-fee energy supply.
