Project Machinist

The candidate’s primary responsibility will be to work in the PSFC’s machine shop to fabricate a wide range of components needed to perform research and development in plasma physics and fusion energy. Significant experience working with the materials found in these systems is essential, including aluminum, steel, Inconel, copper, molybdenum, tungsten, G10, and or fiber-reinforced plastics.  The candidate should be an expert with modern machine tools (e.g. the programming of CAM milling machines and lathes) and will be expected to set up, maintain, and operate such machine tools. The candidate needs to have experience with Master Cam programming CNC lathes and multi-axis milling machine as well the use of horizontal and vertical band saws, belt/disc sanders, rotary grinders, and buffers which are typical in a machine shop. Experienced with speeds and feeds and selection of proper tooling a must.  Experience using wire EDM machines is desired. The ability to work closely with students, researchers, and engineers is required. Most importantly, the candidate should have an R&D background with significant experience and the ability to fabricate one-off pieces, tooling, and fixtures required for prototype or short-run production cycles.

Chief Electrical Engineer
