Signal digitization is not a perfect process, and various non-ideal effects can have very significant implications for data analysis and interpretation, particularly when attempting to correlate two signals digitized on different systems. Conditions under which signals digitized on different systems can be sensibly correlated are discussed, and the methodology is applied to DIII-D's two toroidally separated CO2 heterodyne interferometers as a case study.
